Dialouge

These people could be talking about drugs or fighting or even hard times.

“What’s happening”.                                        “Your mum called”.                                                              :                            “How is she”.                            “She can tell u that”

while at the table I was sitting their waiting for him to come home. I hear the door creak then slam he’s home I thought

what’s happening he said                                Your mum called                                           What, how is she                                        She can tell u that

as soon as I sed that he walked out in anger and shock

The court scene

  • unbiased/impartial
  • fair
  • understanding

In the the play I don’t think that it shows that Shylock will not have a fair topic as the  duke says “I am sorry for thee: thou art come to answer a stony adversery, an inhuman wretch uncapable of pity, void and empty from any dram of mercy” and in this he says Shylock doesn’t have pity for anyone and is a heartless enemy. Also in this speech it sounds like the duke is on antonios side and will not let Shylock win the trial.

uncapable of pity: Shylock won’t show any pity.                                                        Stony adversary: heartless enemy                                                  Inhuman wretch: two faced inhuman                                       Void and empty from any dram of mercy:

the image I get from the judge from his first line is that he is biased Antonio this is because he says sorry to Antonio for Shylocks foolish complaint he thinks this is very silly and that Shylock is stupid for putting in this complaint!

Essay

Is the merchant of Venice anti-Semitic???

In this piece of writing I will be giving my opinion on the statement above “Is the merchant of Venice anti-Semitic. Anti-semitism is racism towards the Jewish people and culture. The term Anti-Semitism came around just after the holocaust, as the holocaust was the precedent of all racism and is known as the most brutal and horrific type of racism.

Firstly, I would strongly say that the Merchant of Venice is very anti-Semitic as you can see this in The opening scene in which the Christians Aka Antonio etc. Were spitting on the Jews as if they were the buckets western Cowboys spat into. This is why I agree with this and that is why this is my first point.

Secondly, I also think that the play is Anti-Semitic as in Act 2 Scene 8 Shylock is called a ‘Dog Jew’

Is the play anti Semitic???

Anti-Semitic                                                Personally, I think that anti-Semitic is when someone is racist towards Jewish culture and/or people.

Keywords.                                                      () juxtapose-to put two contrasting things together for effect                                           () pogrom-the organised murder of a particular group (in particular, the Jews of Eastern Europe.)                                              () Rialto-Jewish stock exchange                    () disproportionate-not equal to something

because he worried about his money more than his daughter

i think that Shylock is not a characiture as he has no facial features of characiture or appearance of this but others may agree by saying he is as all he cares about is money.

Continued from yesterday

I think freeland does think the play is anti Semitic as as you can see in the article he mentions very discriminative parts such as “he is shown as obsessed by money” and ” as the dog Jew did utter in the streets, my daughter o my ducats o my daughter” I believe he does say this as it is believed that in today’s culture there is a very racist stereotype towards Jews which is that they are very good with money.

If the play was anti Semitic I think we should still read it as Shakespeare uses very good English in which we could learn from also it is good to know what happened in them times

Historical Context

COMEDY: What was Shakespeare’S weary of comedy (Shakespearean Comedy)

Shakespeare’s most renowned and popular comedy was midsummer nights dream. In a Shakespearean Comedy there is collision as many people would find some of his work offensive, but on the other hand many people may find his work normal as back in the time he wrote this play it may have been OK to say most of these things. The genre of Tragedy and Comedy will be very difficult to separate depending on parts of certain plays. Their essential difference lies in the different relation of the leading characters. Just like in the merchant of Venice Act2 Scene2 where Lancelot and his father gobbo are talking and as you may know gobbo is blind and in the scene Lancelot is giving directions so this could portray as Comedy or Tragedy so… Who knows???

Act 2 Scene 3-5

SCENE 3

I pick Question A. Personally I think Shylock would feel betrayed and that his daughter, Jessica, is dishonouring him.

SCENE 4

I pick question A. Personally I think that Lorenzo wants to marry for her money and wealth.

SCENE 5

The prince of Morroco

Yes as many more models are lighter complexion.                                                     Also as many mascots for company’s like uhncr it’s angelina jolie.                                   Also many many beauty products show better on people with a lighter complexion.

Personally I don’t think skin whitening cream should be banned as its people’s opinions and also somewhere out there in this world this is probably skin darkening cream.

Fairest-Positive, lightest, born in Europe     Shadow-Prince says he’s dark and she’s light

The scene opens with bassanio and Shylock in the Jewish ghetto in Venice. Bassanio asks Shylock for money: “Three thousand ducats for three months, and Antonio bound.”

Shylock thinks Antonios ships are not secure and thinks he can get money from him. He doesn’t like Antonio and wants to hurt him: “But ships are but boards, sailors but men.”

Shylock gives Antonio a reason for why he shouldn’t give him the money: “Signor Antonio, many a time and oft in the Rialto.”
If Antonio fails to pay Shylock on the deadline, Shylock will cut him open. “Let the forfeit be nominated for an equal pound of your fair flesh.

PRINCE OF MORROCO. – Intimidating. – Courageous. – Wealthy.

Prince of Morroco is the only non European

I think that the prince would be introduced by Gnawa music (Moroccan specific music).

In my opinion I think his followers would be silent to show signs of loyalty.

I think Portia and Nerrisa would be impressed and wooed by him.
